In 2020 Fawcett Milton Keynes Fawcett co-founded Voices of Women Milton Keynes (VOWMK), a partnership of local women’s organisations, to champion women’s voices and to make Milton Keynes a better place for girls and women, in all their diversity, to live, work and thrive.

The VOWMK partnership participates in the Voluntary Sector Alliance, which is the Strategic Voice of the ‘Networks of Networks’ in Milton Keynes.

The partnership commits to:

  • Coalition building and collaboration;
  • Collecting evidence of and actively promoting the voices of women and girls;
  • Encouraging women and girls across all our networks and beyond to participate in creating change;
  • Learning and development through research and data collection;
  • Raising public awareness about the issues concerning women and girls.

VOWMK publishes a monthly newsletter, highlighting news, events, information from other local newsletters, and consultations or petitions that are likely to appeal to women. Each month we invite members of the community to take the Megaphone and write an opinion piece. Recent topics have included:

  • Women's health, the work of our local Healthwatch and the launch of a national Women's Health Strategy;
  • A review of 'Data, Deeds and Determination' – an annual event hosted by the Greater Manchester group GM4Women2028, celebrating the value of data and presenting their own data on the changing position of women over a 10-year period (2018-2028);
  • Championing women playwrights;
  • Women in local politics – one edition featured women who had stood in recent local elections, another focused on how to get involved in Council decision-making;
  • Female images in popular music videos;
  • Helping women manage the cost of living, including period poverty;
  • And the March of the Mummies.

VOWMK also hosts regular listening events and workshops. A recent workshop on ‘Foraging for facts’, attended by members of several local organisations, explored the value of different data sources on Violence Against Women and Girls.

Groups commemorate awareness days and campaigns and amplify, on their social media accounts, events hosted by others in Milton Keynes. Visit the VOWMK website to find out more.

VOWMK coordinates the annual White Ribbon Day Vigil at the Milton Keynes Rose in Central Milton Keynes. The 2022 ceremony attracted speakers from Milton Keynes Council, Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council, Thames Valley Police, Milton Keynes Youth Cabinet and women from the Iranian and Afghan Diaspora in Milton Keynes.
