We remember the suffrage campaigners of the past and their struggle over many decades for women’s rights including the right to vote. They faced many barriers and set-backs. Yet they persisted. Their triumph inspires us to know that we too can succeed. Anything is possible. But there are also those who would turn the clock back. Those who would undo the progress of the past. The truth is equality won’t happen on its own. So we have to fight on and find the next generation who will step forward to drive change. The moment becomes the movement. Join us. Shout Out UK – an award-winning youth news network engaging young people in politics –is hosting this event to raise money for the Fawcett Society, a women’s charity campaigning for gender equality and women's rights. Women are under-represented in both comedy and politics. Let us challenge this by giving space to women in these spheres and supporting young people in pursuing their goals. Alexis has worked in the US Congress and then in the UK for an MP for 5 years.13-years later, Alexis will use her wicked wit and particular political insight to host this night and highlight why we need more women in both comedy and politics! Alexis regularly performs and MCs at venues across London, she has had shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was a finalist in both the Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian Competition and the Comedy Virgins Max Turner Competition. She also loves cats. Athena Kugblenu - A witty social commentator. Athena was a 2017 nominee for the 99 Club Female Comedians’ Bursary, she writes for BBC Radio 4 (News Quiz) and appears on various other BBC radio shows. You can find her on the ever popular Kitchen Table podcast and listen to her hilarious contributions to the much-celebrated podcasts ‘Global Pillage‘ and The Guilty Feminist Podcast, hosted by Deborah Frances-White. Bisha K Ali - Hailing from West London and ping-ponging between cultures has left her with no choice but to stand up and laugh about her strict and strange upbringing. A storyteller, Bisha touches on topics including race, religion, science and family. Her laid-back charm, along with her ability to surprise and delight audiences took her to the Final of the 2013 Funny Women Awards within a year of her first gig.Jen Brister - This headliner describes herself as "Stand up comedian, writer, actor, dickhead". Jen is a critically acclaimed stand up comedian, writer and actor, with fantastic wit and a hilarious impression of her mother. She has written for the BBC and has been a regular contributor to magazines including Diva, Standard Issue and The Huffington Post, as well as appearing on Russell Brand's radio comedy Cloud Cuckoo.
