To honour Black History Month, throughout October we will be celebrating the work of some incredible Black women in the UK. From politicians to activists to women working on the front line of Coronavirus, these women are doing amazing things in 2020.

Watch the videos below to learn more about the work of these women, their proudest achievements and their journeys.

Helen Grant MP

Helen Grant is the Conservative party MP for Maidstone and the Weald and was the first Black woman MP and Minister. From 2012 she first served in Government as jointly Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Women and Equalities from 2012 to 2015 and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice 2012 to 2013. She also was appointed Minister for Sport and Tourism in 2013 which she held until 2015 - a post she says was one of the best jobs in government.

Marsh de Cordova MP

Marsha de Cordova is the Labour MP for Battersea and has held that seat since 2017. She is currently the Shadow Secretary for Women and Equalities. As an MP she has campaigned to make the Parliamentary Estate more accessible for disabled people as well as making her own constituency more accessible. Here she talks to the Fawcett Society about her role and what gives her hope at this time.

Martha

Martha works at Watford Women's Centre as a Domestic Abuse Outreach worker. She works with vulnerable women and raises awareness of domestic abuse to give women the confidence to come forward.
