What is the Parliamentary Retention Project?

Supported by the Joseph Rowntree Social Security Charitable Trust, the Parliamentary Retention Project (working title) seeks to understand, from a gendered perspective, the barriers and resources that affect MPs' decisions to remain in Parliament, or leave it.

Comprising depth interviews, a survey, and evidence review, this research will look at the different pressures and challenges MPs face, the types of support that they have, and their views about their role. It will feed into work that seeks to help promote a more representative Parliament.

Fawcett is known for its high-quality, impartial and impactful research, such as our Government-commissioned research on women’s pathways into politics, ‘Strategies for Success, and our cross-party Local Government Commission.
