Fawcett Society responded to the sentencing of former MP Charlie Elphicke to two years in prison.

"It is right that Charlie Elphicke has been jailed for three counts of sexual assault.

"We were incredibly moved by the victim impact statements and the courage of those women in coming forward. It is not right that they have had to suffer this in their place of work.

"The House of Commons should be no different from any other workplace. Safety and the safeguarding of staff must be paramount.

"We are calling for legal changes and action from the parties to ensure Parliament is a safe workplace for all free from the threat of sexual assault and harassment. It is completely unacceptable that another MP, who has been accused of rape, has not been suspended."
