Charity runs are not usually my thing but when I saw that the Fawcett Society was getting a team together for the London Landmarks Half Marathon I felt compelled to join.
As a working parent I have become very aware of the big hill that we still have to climb when it comes to gender equality in the home and in the workplace. From the hard statistics of the gender pay gap to the anecdotal assumptions about what someone's role is or should be based on their gender to the studies that consistently show that women shoulder the burden of more housework regardless of who does what work outside the home.
We are still a long way off equal representation for men and women in Parliament and just one in 10 executive directors of FTSE 100 companies are women.
I want all of this to change so that my two daughters can live in a world where what they achieve and what they choose to do is not limited or defined by their gender. I think we're still a long way off, but I am currently a long way off being able to run 13.1 miles and I am determined to achieve it!
