News Events Fawcett Conference 2022: Our Feminist Recovery Our Feminist Recovery: Resting, Reviving, Resisting We are delighted to invite you to our annual conference and AGM taking place at King's House in London on Saturday 19th November. Join us for our annual conference as we chart our feminist recovery, to explore how we can rest, revive and resist. We'll look at how we can create a new economy that works for women, to building a feminist Government and ensuring that it is truly accessible and inclusive. We are pleased to announce that our afternoon sessions will start with a keynote from MP Anneleise Dodds. The conference is kindly supported by method's Clean Up Pre-nup which aims to promote equality at home. We are bringing together inspirational activists, change-makers and political leaders for a day of exciting panel discussions and breakout sessions: Main sessions 11.15 am Session 1: Welcome address 11.20 am Session 2: Our feminist recovery: A new economy that works for womenWhat is a feminist recovery and how can we ensure that we are building a future that works for all women? We need new approaches and innovation to ensure that women are at the centre as we rebuild and whether the storm of the cost-of-living crisis. Chair: Ayesha HazarikaPanelists: Halima Begum, Ruhi Khan, Rachel O'Brien, Sara Reis Breakout panels and workshop (1.00 pm - 2.30 pm) Workshop: Well-being for change-makers with Grrrlzine (1.00 pm - 2.30 pm) Self-care shouldn’t be reserved for periods of burnout but built into our activism. How can we live with intentional care, enabling sustainable movements and be happy, healthy individuals? Grrrlzine will take a through of a history of zine making, the uses as a form of self-care and a political tool before participant have the chance to create their own zine. This workshop has limited capacity. Break-out panel 1: Accessible activism (1.30 pm - 2.30 pm)Can everyone be an activist? For intersectionality to be at the heart of our feminist recovery, we need to make sure that everyone can participate in activism and that activism is truly inclusive. Chair: Zaimal Azad Panelists: Kelly Given, Stella Creasy, Zainab Asamranu, Charlotte Proudman Break-out panel 2: A childcare system that works for women (1.30 pm - 2.30 pm)Right now, our childcare system does not work for women. But imagine if it did! In this session we’ll talk about the solutions, opportunities and the change we want to see from Government, our employers, our partners and across our society to create a childcare system that unlocks the potential of families across the UK. Chair: Alex ShepherdPanelists: Claire Reindorp, Christine Farquhasan, Lauren Fabianski, Taslima Uddin, Shannon Pite Break-out panel 3: Equality starts at home (1.30 pm - 2.30 pm)Our feminist recovery starts at home, with a re-balancing of childcare, chores and good work life balance. Chair: Alexandra ToppingPanelists: Elliot Rae, Kudsia Batool, Owen Thomas Main sessions 2.45 pm Keynote We are excited to have Anneliese Dodds MP kick off the afternoon sessions reflecting on the day's sessions, and how the government can implement some of the actions to create a fairer society for all. 3.00 pm Session 3: Building a feminist governmentGender equality is not just a human right, but part and parcel of a functioning democracy, making space for representation and social justice. This panel will explore what a feminist government would and should look like and how we can get there.
