This briefing looks at how coronavirus is impacting disabled women. The briefing is published jointly with Women's Budget Group, Queen Mary University of London and the London School of Economics.

Disabled people have been impacted on multiple fronts by the outbreak, and our survey data shows some of the intersecting impacts with gender:

  • Social isolation: 56% of disabled women say social isolation has been difficult to cope with, compared with 42% of non-disabled women
  • Access to necessities: 63% of disabled women have struggled to access what they need from the shops, and 6 in ten also fear missing out on medicines
  • Domestic and care work: 63% of disabled women said they were struggling to cope with the different demands on their time
  • Health and wellbeing: 53% of disabled women reported high levels of anxiety

The briefing also makes recommendations to alleviate these pressures, from increasing the social security safety net, to addressing changes in social care support and better PPE and guidance for personal assistants.
