Join Fawcett in a virtual screening of the award-winning documentary Through the Night

Fawcett members have exclusive access to the virtual screening of the award winning documentary Through the Night; a portrait of three working New York mothers whose lives intersect at a 24-hour day-care centre.

The interaction between work and care are at the root of much of the persistence of gender inequality in Britain today. Childcare costs have gone up by 3.5% for three- to four-year olds over the last year, while parents are paying 2.5% more for under twos.

The last two years have significantly highlighted, not just how broken the childcare system is in Britain, that 6 years on from Fawcett’s report on Parents, work and care: Striking the balance, women are still disproportionality affected by the high costs of childcare, the second highest costs globally.

Fawcett is embarking on a new ground-breaking piece of research, funded by Pacey and the Paver’s Foundation. Our research analyses childcare systems in five countries across the world, allowing us to assess and learn what the options are for reformed childcare system in the UK and a one that works for families.

Following the virtual screening, Fawcett will be holding a space for our members to reflect on the documentary, and their own experiences balancing work and childcare.

Fawcett will facilitate the conversation with our members.

This is a free event and will be taking place on Tuesday 19th April. Fawcett are hosting the virtual screening from 5:00pm with reflections with members taking place from 6:30pm – 7:15pm.
