Please not this meeting is open to members of the APPG on Sex Equality only.

The next meeting on Sharing Care, a discussion of sharing care responsibilities for children and other dependents more equally, is on 11th September, 16:30-17:45 in Committee room 20 in the House of Commons.

In 2018, women still play a greater role in caring for children and other dependents, which we know is one of the drivers of the gender pay gap. Mothers aged 42 in full-time work face a motherhood pay gap of 11%, or 7% when certain factors are controlled whereas fathers enjoy a daddy pay bonus of 21% compared to men without children.

There have been moves to try to encourage sharing care responsibilities, with Shared Parental Leave coming into effect in 2015. However. uptake could be as low as 2%, meaning that despite parents having had the right to share leave around the birth or adoption of a child for three years, few are taking making use of this right.

The APPG on Sex Equality therefore invites you to a meeting to discuss Sharing Care.
