Fawcett Commission on Women and the Criminal Justice System

Commission on Women and the Criminal Justice systemFawcett’s Commission on Women and the Criminal Justice System was established in 2003 to investigate women’s experience of all aspects of the criminal justice system.  For the past five years, the Commission has brought issues surrounding women and the criminal justice system into the policy spotlight. The Commission has highlighted the disadvantages faced by women throughout the criminal justice system and has succeeded in prompting legislative, organisational and policy changes.

The Commission is chaired by Baroness Jean Corston together with a team of high profile Commissioners.

The Commission focuses on three phases of women’s experiences of the criminal justice system – women victims and survivors of crime; women accused or convicted of criminal offences; and women working in the system.
