July-October 2007: Accessing Power: roundtable series on ethnic minority women

In 2007, Fawcett hosted two roundtables on ethnic minority women’s access to governance and senior decision-making positions in the private, public and voluntary sectors.

The series was chaired by Baroness Prashar, the only ethnic minority woman to hold trusteeships in each of the private, public and voluntary sectors.

The roundtables were an opportunity for a range of experts on governance to come together in unique, targeted, and high-profile forums to pool their knowledge, identify the best intervention strategies, and develop an agenda for change.

  • Mapping and prioritising the terrain (July): In the first roundtable, participants mapped current evidence on the key barriers and options for increasing ethnic minority women’s access to positions of power.
  • The agenda for change (October): In the second roundtable, participants shared their challenges and successes in increasing ethnic minority women’s representation within their spheres of influence. They built an understanding of the main issues currently faced by those responsible for change with a view to suggesting practical ways forward.
