Launch of Sexism and the City

On Tuesday 1st April Fawcett is launching a major new campaign, Sexism and the City.

Why? Because nearly 40 years on from the outlawing of discrimination against women in the workplace, sexism remains rife:

  • Only 11% of FTSE 100 company directors are women
  • 30,000 women lose their jobs every year in the UK simply for being pregnant
  • Two thirds of low paid workers are women
  • Women working full-time are paid on average 17% less than men
  • 18% of sex discrimination compensation awards are for sexual harassment

Sexism has no place in UK business or society or in 2007. The time for action is now.

Attend the public launch of Sexism and the City!
Show your support for the campaign by attending the launch. Speakers include: Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell MP; Fleur Bothwick, Ernst & Young; and Katherine Rake, Director of the Fawcett Society.

Three women who have experienced sexism in the City of London will also share their experiences: Polly, former City employee; Lucy, former lapdance club performer; and Elizabeth, a cleaner in the City.

Date & time: Tuesday 1 April 2008, 1.30-3.00pm
Venue: London Development Agency, Palestra, 197 Blackfriars Road, London. SE1 8AA
