The gender equality duty and the criminal justice system
The gender equality duty came into force in April 2007.
It is the most radical change to sex discrimination law for 30 years, and it imbues a positive and proactive obligation to take preventative action on gender discrimination, not just a duty to address individual cases of discrimination once they have taken place.
The gender equality duty will have far-reaching implications for the criminal justice system.
