The facts

There has been a revolution in some aspects of women’s lives over the past 30 years.

And yet, social and economic justice remains a distant dream for women in the UK, which is why Fawcett's work is needed as much as ever.

  • Women working full-time are paid on average 17.1% less an hour than men for doing work of equivalent value. This figure rises to 20% for ethnic minority women, and to 36% for women working part-time.
  • Women make up less than 20% of MPs. There are only two Black women MPs, and there has never been an Asian woman MP.
  • 96% of executive directors of the UK's top 100 companies are men.
  • Out of every 100 rape cases reported to the police, just seven end in the rapist being caught and punished. Rape conviction rates vary hugely across England and Wales, indicating a 'postcode lottery'.
  •  The number of women in jail has more than doubled over the past ten years - because the courts are getting harsher, not because women are commiting more crime.

Women and money
Why are women still paid less than men, more likely to live in poverty, less likely to get to the top of their career? And what is Fawcett doing about it?
Women and politics
Women are still underrepresented in the vast majority of political institutions. Fawcett wants to see more female councillors and MPs. See the shocking statistics about women in Westminster and beyond and why change is needed.
