Fawcett comments on new Gender Pay Gap reporting regulations

Commenting on the new Gender Pay Gap reporting regulations which were laid before parliament today, Sam Smethers, Chief Executive of the Fawcett Society, said:

“Gender Pay Gap reporting is potentially the most significant step forward on closing the pay gap since the Equal Pay Act. We are pleased to see Government delivering on this and we are particularly pleased to see them include the bonus pay gap. This is something Fawcett lobbied hard for.

“We also need to make sure that there are meaningful penalties for employers who don’t comply and that we focus on an action plan to close it rather than just publishing the figure itself. But fundamentally we won’t close it unless we take action to equalise caring roles between men and women and also tackle the stark occupational segregation that we see in our labour market.”
