Fawcett Comments on BlackLivesMatter

Today has seen protests and campaigns from Black Lives Matter in the UK calling attention to racism experienced by black people in their everyday lives.

Racism and sexism remain powerful forces in our society, blighting the lives of our fellow citizens and preventing us achieving the equality that would make us stronger, wealthier and happier as a nation. In particular, Fawcett calls attention to the racist sexism experienced by women of colour and the increase in attacks on women and men of colour following the Brexit vote. Black women earn less than their white counterparts, are underrepresented in positions of power and are subject to a host of negative stereotypes. These are injustices which must be addressed.
